Hkeylocalmachine Software Clients Mail Default Program Associations
Sep 08, 2017 I know how to set the default e-mail client. My question is: when I set the default client to 'Mail', why isn't the registry key 'Computer HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Clients Mail' set to 'Mail' as the default client? It shows 'Microsoft Outlook' even after I switch the default client to 'Mail.' I too have had this problem. To open a Write new e-mail using mailto association. This was the default behavior on the Asker's computer: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer Appkey 15] 'Association'='mailto' To open an e-mail app, or browser with an e-mail's Inbox, you can use shell execute with proper command.
Hello, I am trying to find a way to make Outlook 2010 (32bit) the default email client for Windows 7 (x64) automatically. This doesn't seem to be an easy thing to do. I have gone into the registry and set 'HKLM/SOFTWARE/Clients/Mai l' and set the Default value to 'Microsoft Outlook' but this did not help.
Password txt for rar files. I also set this registry key: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT mailto shell open command] @=' 'C: PROGRA~2 MICROS~ 1 Office1 4 OUTLOOK.EXE ' -c IPM.Note /m '%1 ' But, neither of these changes make Outlook my default program for Windows 7. This is as far as I have gotten in trying to figure out how to make Outlook 2010 (32bit) the default email program for Windows 7 (x64). I am not sure what to try next. The strange thing is that each time I try to call Outlook, I get a Windows message saying, 'Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client.*Microsoft Office Outlook'.
The error I just quoted is from the registry HKLM/SOFTWARE/Clients/Mail /PreFirstR un. If you know how to set Outlook 2010 as the default automatically then please let me know. Even if there is a script to do this then I would like to have that. The reason I need this is that I have a program that works with Outlook. When it needs to work with Outlook it calls it and it expects it to just open up. If Outlook is not the default email program for Windows then the above error happens. If, perhaps, I can run another program or script during my program's install then that would be an acceptable solution.
It would be nice to know what settings need to be set, but at this point I don't really care how to do it as long as it can be done automatically somehow so that a user does not have to do it themselves. Thanks, John.
Louis, This issue may occur if the Outlook registry key is corrupted. When other programs try to use the Outlook Simple MAPI interface, they cannot retrieve the required information from the registry. You must first remove the corrupted Outlook registry key, and then perform a Detect and Repair operation to have Outlook rebuild the key.
To do this, follow these steps: • Click Start, and then click Run. • In the Open box, type regedit, and then press ENTER. • In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Clients Mail Microsoft Outlook • Select the subkey, and then press DELETE.
• Quit Registry Editor. • Start Outlook. • On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
• Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair. Important: Above section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. That did not turn out to be the answer. I found a simpler solution but I am still not impressed with Outlook. Kind of like the comment often heard socially TMI. I installed Outlook in XP and then imported my WAB and messages into outlook 2003 from OE. Copied the appropriate files to to a hold location. Rebooted into W7 and then copied the.pst and other appropriate files into the corresponding directories in W7 version of Outlook.
