I did manage to find a GigaWare USB to Ethernet Adapter at my local RadioShack. It works fine in Windows XP and 7. It shows up as a non-writable CD-Drive device with install directories for PC and Mac. NDISGTK shows that it's there, but nothing offers to let me actually use it. The installer makes mention of Shenzhen Corechips Electronics Co, LTD. Lsusb outputs this.
